Why people walk in rather than book online

Financial protection a booking form does not give you

Package holidays bought here are ABTA bonded and ATOL protected. If an airline or hotel group fails, your money is covered and we do the reclaiming, not you.

One named consultant who knows your file

You deal with the same person from first enquiry to final invoice. No ticket numbers, no repeating your booking reference to a stranger.

Forty years of supplier relationships

Long-standing accounts with airlines, hotels and cruise lines mean requests get answered: a room on a higher floor, an earlier check-in, a table held, a seat moved.

Someone to speak to when a flight cancels at 11pm

We give clients a direct number for problems in resort. A cancellation is a rebooking for us, not an overnight in an airport queue for you.

Racks of holiday brochures on the wall inside the Swift Travel Loughton shop

Brochures still beat a browser tab

The wall by the window holds current brochures from the operators we actually book: small-ship cruise lines, safari camps, Alpine chalet companies and the tailor-made specialists who never appear on a comparison site.

Take an armful home, or sit with a consultant and let them pull the four pages that are relevant to your dates and budget. Either way, nothing is behind a login.

What we arrange

Tailor-made worldwide travel

Itineraries built from scratch around your dates, budget and pace.

We start with a blank page and your dates, then build flights, hotels, transfers and the bits in between into one protected booking with one invoice.

  • Multi-stop Asia
  • Fly-drive USA
  • Rail and stay Europe

Honeymoons

Quiet hotels, sensible flight timings and rooms we have asked for by number.

Two-centre trips that pair somewhere to see with somewhere to stop. We flag the honeymoon on every booking and ask for the room, the table and the late checkout in writing.

  • Maldives overwater
  • Bali and Lombok
  • Cape Town and safari

Luxury cruise and river cruise

Ocean and river lines compared properly, including cabin position.

We compare lines on what actually differs: cabin location relative to lifts and engines, what the fare includes, and whether the flights and pre-cruise night are worth taking from the line or booking separately.

  • Caribbean fly-cruise
  • Rhine and Douro
  • Norway and the fjords

Family holidays

Resorts and villas chosen for the ages of your children, not for the brochure.

Half-term and August dates held early, connecting rooms confirmed rather than requested, and kids' clubs checked for the age they will be when you travel, not when you book.

  • Canaries and Balearics
  • Florida and the parks
  • Greek island villas

Safari and India

Camps, guides and internal flights arranged by consultants who travel there.

Camps chosen for the season and the game you want to see, light-aircraft transfers timed properly, and guides we can name. India by rail, road or private car with drivers we have used before.

  • Kenya and Tanzania
  • Kruger and the Cape
  • Rajasthan and Kerala

Ski chalets and villas

Catered chalets, self-drive Alps and villa rental with transfers included.

Catered and self-catered chalets, lift passes and equipment arranged before you fly, and Saturday transfer timings that do not lose you a day on the mountain.

  • French Three Valleys
  • Austrian Tyrol
  • Italian Dolomites

Business travel

Flights, hotels and rebookings handled by a named contact, not a portal.

Corporate accounts with a named consultant, agreed hotel rates, and same-hour rebooking when a meeting moves. Monthly invoicing rather than staff expense claims.

  • Europe day returns
  • Long-haul business class
  • Conference groups

Multi-generational and group trips

Ten to fifty travellers, one invoice and a rooming list that works.

Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings abroad and club trips. We hold space, collect deposits individually where needed, and keep one rooming list that everyone can read.

  • Weddings abroad
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Golf and sports groups

Not listed? Ask anyway — most of what we book started as a phone call about something nobody had a brochure for.

Where we send people

Four decades of bookings from one High Road shop means we sell the same regions again and again, and we have stayed in a good number of the hotels ourselves. These are the ones our consultants know best.

Indian Ocean

Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and the Seychelles for honeymoons and winter sun.

  • Overwater villas
  • Half-board upgrades
  • Seaplane timings

Dubai and the Gulf

Short-haul long-haul: seven hours out, guaranteed sun and a stopover that earns its keep.

  • Beach and city twins
  • Family resorts
  • Stopover packages

Caribbean and Mexico

Adults-only and all-inclusive, chosen island by island rather than by brochure page.

  • Antigua and Barbados
  • St Lucia
  • Riviera Maya

Italy, Greece and the Med

Lakes, coast and islands, with ferries, trains and hire cars joined up properly.

  • Amalfi and the lakes
  • Greek island hopping
  • Croatia and Dalmatia

Africa and the safari circuit

Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, timed to the season.

  • Migration season
  • Family-friendly camps
  • Safari and beach

India and Asia

Rajasthan, Kerala, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, at a pace that is actually a holiday.

  • Golden Triangle
  • Japan rail passes
  • Thai islands

USA and Canada

Fly-drives, national parks, city breaks and the Florida trip done without the queues.

  • Park tickets
  • One-way hire cars
  • Rockies rail

Europe close to home

City breaks, Christmas markets and ski, from Stansted, Southend and the London airports.

  • Weekend breaks
  • Alpine ski
  • Rail from St Pancras

Meet the team

Four consultants, each with their own specialism. Ask for the person whose part of the world you are heading to.

Edward Riddle

Director

Runs the agency and still writes itineraries; the person to ask when a trip has to be right.

Reshma Lakhani

India, Africa and exotic rivers

Plans safaris, Indian rail journeys and river cruising in places most agents do not sell.

Rob Irwin

European rivers, Mediterranean and business travel

Knows the Rhine and Douro ships by name, and handles corporate accounts.

Adrienne

Business travel

Manages corporate bookings, changes and rebookings, often the same hour.

The areas we look after

Most of our clients live within a few miles of the shop: Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Debden and Theydon Bois, with regulars coming down from Epping and across from Woodford Green and Abridge. Many of them started with a single booking in the 1990s and now bring their children in to plan their own honeymoons.

Being local matters more than it sounds. We know which Central line timings work for an early Heathrow departure, which drivers to use for a Gatwick run from the Epping side, and we can hold documents at the counter for you to collect on the way past.
